
Beidelschies Fans Career-High 12 as Buckeyes Fall to Mountaineers, 5-2

Game Recap
- In the top of the first, Henry Kaczmar singled to right field, extending his hit streak to 15 games. However, there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes in the first as they went scoreless.
- The Mountaineers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after an RBI double.
- With one out on the board in the top of the third, Hank Thomas was hit by a pitch to get on base, and he advanced to third on a single from Trey Lipsey. A single from Kaczmar plated Thomas to tie the score, 1-1. Matthew Graveline then singled to shortstop, advancing Lipsey to third base, who then scored on a West Virginia error to give Ohio State the lead, 2-1.
- Kaczmar hit a two-out single in the away half if the fifth frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but he was left on base.
- Beidelschies was throwing heat on the mound, including striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth inning. He caught one batter swinging and two looking.
- In the top of the seventh, Zach Fjelstad and Thomas drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. A beautifully placed sacrifice bunt from Josh Stevenson advanced both runners. Lipsey then walked to load the bases for Ohio State, but all three runners were stranded as the next two Buckeyes struck out.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Mountaineers reclaimed the lead, 5-2, following an RBI groundout and a three-run home run.
- Both sides were retired in order in the eighth and the Buckeyes looked to rally in the ninth. With one out, pinch hitter Isaac Cadena picked up his first career hit, singling to left field and then advancing to second on a West Virginia fielding error. Ohio State's next two batters, however, struck out and the Buckeyes fell to the Mountaineers, 5-2, to open the three-game series.
- Despite taking the loss on the mound, Beidelschies (2-3) had a phenomenal outing, fanning a career-high 12 batters in 6.1 innings pitched. He allowed three runs on six hits.
- Kaczmar had a team-high three hits.
- Lipsey, Graveline and Mitchell Okuley each added one hit.
- The Buckeyes continue their series against the Mountaineers with a game Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
