Key Quotes
"We've been battle tested in a lot of ways this season, and I think this is another example," head coach Jarred Martin said. "In the shootout, we said it was time to step up and to take the brave step to be in that moment, and to trust that we have one of the best goalkeepers in the country behind us."
"Even if we aren't playing our best at times, we're still going to stay close. We're going to find a chance to win. We can make adjustments and find a way to get a victory," Martin said. "That's what we did today."
How it Happened
The first quarter was an offensive stalemate, with both teams combining for five shots and Ohio state notching the only one on goal. The Hoosiers opened up scoring early in the second quarter, dribbling down the field to take a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Though Ohio State out-cornered Indiana 4-1 in the quarter, the Hoosiers maintained a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Ohio State found the equalizer with four minutes left in the third quarter on a penalty corner opportunity to take the score to 1-1. Neither team could find an offensive advantage through the fourth quarter, sending the match to overtime tied at one goal apiece.
Indiana generated four penalty corners in the first overtime, but the scarlet and gray defense held out to send it to a second. Both teams combined for three shots in the second overtime, but neither could find the back of the cage.
In the shootout, both teams scored on their first attempt, but a slew of saves by both goalies took it into extra shots. The Buckeyes scored on their seventh penalty shot attempt to take the final score to 2-1.
