Alleva, Golden Earn Big Ten Player of the Week Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State field hockey's Avery Alleva and Sienna Golden earned Big Ten Conference weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday. Alleva was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Golden picked up the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week nod.
The duo helped the Buckeyes take down then-ranked No. 5 Virginia on Sunday for the team's first ranked win of the season.
Alleva, a freshman goalkeeper from Leesburg, Va., kept Virginia off the scoreboard for the first 30 minutes of Sunday's game. Alleva made a career-high six saves in the game and recorded her second career win. She also started the weekend with a then-career best five saves against a No. 12 ranked Syracuse team.
Golden scored both Buckeye goals in the win over Virginia Sunday for her first career multi-goal game. She helped the Buckeyes recover from a fourth-quarter deficit, scoring two goals in 61 seconds to give Ohio State its first win over Virginia since 2014. The Berwyn, Pa. native added a goal in Buckeyes' game against Syracuse and now has a team-high four goals and eight points in four games this season
The awards are the first for Alleva and Golden. Alleva is the first Buckeye rookie since Brenna Bough in 2023 to earn the honor, and the first freshman goalkeeper since Aaliyah Hernandez in 2018 to pick up the award.
