
Buckeyes Make History in Wins Versus Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's swimming and diving teams made history on Saturday, both earning dual meet wins over Michigan for the third straight season. It is the first time in program history the women have defeated Michigan three times in a row and the first time the men have defeated the Wolverines three times in a row since the early 1950's.
The No. 5 women earned a dominant win over the No. 16 Wolverines, defeating them 184-116. The No. 14 men took down the No. 17 Wolverines, 163-137.
Almost 1,000 fans packed the stands at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion for the rivalry meet and the energy was palpable throughout the day.
The day started strong for the Buckeyes, with the relay team of Nyah Funderburke, Hannah Bach, Katherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.97. The team of Tristan Harrison, Josephine Panitz, Catherine Russo and Amy Fulmer finished right behind, taking second with a time of 1:38.20.
Gwen Woodbury (9:49.34) and Maya Geringer (9:50.47) finished first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free.
In the men's 1000 free, the Buckeyes took the top three spots. Charlie Clark was the winner, finishing in 9:00.94, 10 seconds ahead of teammate Sam Campbell (9:10.55), who placed second. Mason Edmund took third with a time of 9:12.78.
Tomas Navikonis won a tight race in the 200 free, picking up speed in his final lap to touch the wall at 1:35.62 and edged Eitan Ben-Shitrit from Michigan, which finished in 1:35.72. Navikonis' time is an NCAA B cut.
Ruslan Gaziev earned his first individual win of the day in the back, swimming the event in an NCAA B standard time of 46.77.
Panitz won three individual events against the Wolverines, starting with the 100 breast. She earned first place with an NCAA B cut time of 1:00.06. Bach (1:02.04), Reese Dehen (1:02.67) and Paige Delma (1:04.07) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
Ivan and Zenick finished first and second in the 50 free. Ivan turned in a time of 22.53 and Zenick touched the wall at 22.54. Both are NCAA B standard times.
Fulmer was the winner of the 100 free with a time of 48.85 and Gaziev earned his second win of the day in the men's 100 free with a time of 43.21. Both Fulmer and Gaziev's times are NCAA B cuts.
Tristan Jankovics picked up a win in the 200 back, finishing in 1:44.68.
Panitz's second victory of the day came in the 200 breast; she won with an NCAA B standard time of 2:12.46. Dehen finished second with a time of 2:14.48.
On the 3-meter springboard, Janie Boyle was the winner for the women with a score of 320.25, which is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.
Geringer placed first in the 500 free, racing to a time of 4:49.10.
Clark was also the winner of the 500 free, his second victory of the day. He turned in a time of 4:23.56. Teammate Alex Axon (4:27.23) placed second and Campbell (4:28.32) finished third.
In the 100 fly, Zenick (53.59) and Kraus (53.61) were the first and second-place finishers, both recording NCAA B cuts.
Panitz earned her third win of the day in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:00.96 and Jankovics earned his second win of the day in the same event with a time of 1:45.95. Jankovics' time is an NCAA B cut.
Lyle Yost placed first on the 1-meter springboard with an aggregate score of 402.60, which is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.
The final event of the day was the 400 free relay and the fans were ready to cheer on their Buckeyes. The women took first place, with the relay team of Zenick, Harrison, Fulmer and Ivan finishing in 3:16.43.
The men's 400 free relay race was thrilling. After being in second place for the first three legs of the race, Gaziev turned on the jets for the final leg, propelling the Buckeyes to a first-place finish with a time of 2:55.75. Navikonis, Mario McDonald and Shaw Satterfield were the other members of the relay team.
