COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State, the defending Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular-season and tournament champion, opens the 2024 season this week in the first of four-consecutive home matches at the Covelli Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes will host the Greenville University Crusaders in the season opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday to get the season underway.

The 57th season of Ohio State men's volleyball opens with a home match vs. the North Greenville University Crusaders at 7 p.m. Wednesday. All home matches will be streamed live by B1G+. Admission and parking for all Ohio State home men's volleyball matches are free.
Senior outside hitter Jacob Pasteur was named an Off the Block First Team preseason All-American. He also was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason Player of the Year by the league coaches. The Buckeyes were the unanimous No. 1 MIVA preseason pick.
The MIVA league office announced a change to the MIVA postseason tournament prior to the start of the 2024 season. The new format will reward the highest seeds following the completion of the regular season. The Top 4 seeds will host opening round matches. The highest remaining seed will then host the semifinals and finals with the remaining field reseeded to match the highest remaining seed with the lowest. The winners of each semifinal will then meet in the finals for the Don Shondell MIVA Championship Trophy.
The Buckeyes open the season with a four-match homestand. Ohio State faces the Daemen University Wildcats Jan. 7 (4 p.m.), the St. Francis Red Flash Jan. 8 (7 p.m.) and the UC San Diego Tritons Jan. 13 (7 p.m.) before traveling for the first time to Austin, Texas, Jan. 19-20 to take on defending national champion UCLA (5 p.m., Jan. 19) and then USC (2:30 p.m., Jan. 20) at the 2023 First Point Federation Cup. The event is being held at the Austin Convention Center.
In addition to Pasteur, seniors Tommy Poole and Michael Wright along with sophomore Shane Wetzel were named to the 2024 preseason All-MIVA squad.
The Buckeyes are 2-0 all-time vs. North Greenville with the last meeting being a 3-0 win Jan. 4, 2020 in Columbus. The Buckeyes are facing Daemen for the first time and own a 36-3 record over St. Francis.
