COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 5 Ohio State (3-0) takes on visiting UC San Diego (2-1) in the final of four-consecutive home matches Saturday at the Covelli Center. The matchup is the first since 2003 between the two schools and the first in Columbus.

The 57th season of Ohio State men's volleyball opened with a home win (3-0) over the North Greenville University Crusaders Jan. 3. The Buckeyes then earned 3-1 victories over both Daemen (Jan. 7) and St. Francis (Jan. 8) prior to the final game of the season-opening homestand vs. UC San Diego.
All home matches will be streamed live by B1G+. Admission and parking for all Ohio State home men's volleyball matches are free.
Redshirt senior middle blocker Justin Howard earned the first Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week award after leading the Buckeyes with nine blocks over the first two wins over the season. He also has 10 kills in each of the last two victories.
Ohio State opened the 2024 season ranked No. 5 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Ohio State remained in that spot after winning the first two matches of the season.
Senior outside hitter Jacob Pasteur was named an Off the Block First Team preseason All-American. He also was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason Player of the Year by the league coaches. The Buckeyes were the unanimous No. 1 MIVA preseason pick.
The MIVA league office announced a change to the MIVA postseason tournament prior to the start of the 2024 season. The new format will reward the highest seeds following the completion of the regular season. The Top 4 seeds will host opening round matches. The highest remaining seed will then host the semifinals and finals with the remaining field reseeded to match the highest remaining seed with the lowest. The winners of each semifinal will then meet in the finals for the Don Shondell MIVA Championship Trophy.
The Buckeyes open the season with a four-match homestand. Ohio State faced the Daemen University Wildcats Jan. 7 (W, 3-1) and the St. Francis Red Flash Jan. 8 (W, 3-1) before closing out the homestand with the UC San Diego Tritons Saturday before traveling for the first time to Austin, Texas, Jan. 19-20 to take on defending national champion UCLA (5 p.m., Jan. 19) and then USC (2:30 p.m., Jan. 20) at the 2023 First Point Federation Cup. The event is being held at the Austin Convention Center.
