
Buckeyes Set for Wolverine and ITA Events

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two events are on deck for the Ohio State women's tennis team. Friday through Sunday, seven Buckeyes will compete in the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The ITA All-American Championships will be Saturday through Oct. 8 in Cary, N.C., with four Buckeyes set to compete. Â

Michigan Invitational
The Buckeyes will compete in the Wolverine Invitational Friday through Sunday with host Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona State, Yale and Princeton. Matches are scheduled to be played outdoors and scores will be updated throughout the day. Â

Friday, the Buckeyes will take on Princeton in singles at 11 a.m., followed by a round of doubles against Michigan State at 2 p.m. Saturday starts with doubles vs. Yale at 10 a.m. before a round of singles vs. Michigan State. Sunday begins with a round of doubles against Princeton at 8:30 a.m. and wraps up with a singles round vs. Yale.

The Buckeyes traveling to Ann Arbor include Madeline Atway, Megan Basil, Akanksha Bhan, Alessia Cau, Teah Chavez, Dani Schoenly and Audrey Spencer.

Irina Cantos Siemers, Sydni Ratliff, Shelly Bereznyak and Luciana Perry are heading to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships. Live streaming through Cracked Racquets (main draw) and PlaySight, (pre-qualifying and qualifying) along with live scoring, will be available for the tournament. Pre-qualifying is Saturday and Sunday, qualifying is Monday and Tuesday and the main draw starts Wednesday, running through Saturday, Oct. 8.

Noting the All-American selections …
The Buckeyes This Fall
Ohio State started the year at the Furman Fall Classic. Akanksha Bhan was a team-best 3-0 in singles, while six other Buckeyes picked up two singles victories. At the Fall Ranked Spotlight last weekend, Irina Cantos Siemers and Luciana Perry were the runners-up in their respective draws and Cantos Siemers and Ratliff were the A-B doubles finalists.

Looking Ahead
The ITA Midwest Regional Championships will be hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., Oct. 12-16. The final fall events are the UT Home Invitational hosted by Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 26-29 and the ITA Fall National Championships Nov. 1-4 in San Diego, Calif.

Noting the All-American selections …
- No. 16-ranked Cantos Siemers, a three-time unanimous All-Big Ten selection, was the 2023 Big Ten Athlete of the Year. A graduate student in her fifth year as a Buckeye, she has been named team captain of the 2023-24 squad. She became the fifth Buckeye with 100-plus singles wins last weekend and is tied for third in school history with 102 singles victories.
- No. 27-ranked Ratliff, a junior, was the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a 2023 All-Big Ten honoree. She is a two-time NCAA Tournament singles qualifier.
- Cantos Siemers and Ratliff are the nation's No. 14-ranked doubles team and have won an ITA Midwest Region championship.
- Bereznyak, from Bat Yam, Israel, started this year a career-high 69th in the ITA singles rankings. She was a 2023 Big Ten All-Tournament Team selection and the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner for Ohio State. Â Â
- Perry, a freshman from Export, Pa., was ranked 10th among college tennis newcomers this fall. The blue chip recruit was ranked first in her state. Perry is in prequalifying and will start play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Elizabeth Goldsmith of San Diego.Â
