Midweek Games Await for Ohio State in Charleston

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Spring Break continues for the Ohio State softball team tomorrow with a doubleheader at Charleston Southern beginning at 5 p.m. Both games will be carried on ESPN+ and live stats can be found on the schedule page of OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
Following Tuesday’s games, the Buckeyes stay in Charleston and have a single game scheduled at the College of Charleston on Wednesday at 2 p.m. That contest can be seen on FloSoftball.

Basics on the Buckeyes
- Riding a three-game winning streak, Ohio State is 9-7 on the season.
- Overall, the Buckeyes have won six of their last eight games and were 3-1 last weekend at the Beach Chicken Brawl on the campus of Coastal Carolina.
- Five starters are batting over .300 for the season, led by senior Mariah Rodriguez. She’s hitting at a .370 clip with a double, two triples and five RBI.
- Sophomore Kami Kortokrax checks in with a .340 average and has a team-high five doubles.
- Also a sophomore, Melina Wilkison leads the team with 11 runs batted in. She’s batting .333 with six extra base hits.
- The pitching staff is headlined by two juniors: Allison Smith (5-3), who has a 2.73 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 48.2 innings and Emily Ruck (2-4), who pitched a perfect game last weekend against Canisius.
- Ohio State pitchers are averaging better than one strikeout per inning (103 Ks in 101.1 innings).
Scouting Charleston Southern
- The Buccaneers enter Tuesday’s doubleheader with a 9-11 overall record following two losses on Saturday vs. Furman in Greenville, S.C.
- Ashley Meckley leads the team with a .316 batting average while Harper Schoeneweis has driven in 10 runs, tops on the squad.
- Charleston Southern is coached by Christi Musser, who is in her third season guiding the Buccaneers.
- Ohio State and Charleston Southern have met just twice all-time with the last game coming in 2015.
- The first meeting was in 2001, a 8-0 run-rule win for Ohio State, followed by a 10-6 Buckeyes victory in 2015.
Scouting College of Charleston
- The College of Charleston improved to 7-15 on Sunday with a 9-0 win over Delaware.
- Twenty one of the Cougars’ 22 games this season have been played at home.
- Pitcher Payton Lemire has a 3.52 ERA and has logged a team-high 55.2 innings so far this season.
- Head coach Tracey Lynch is in her second season as the Cougar’s head coach after spending six seasons as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro.
