COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Four members of the Ohio State women's tennis team traveled to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships.Â
Cantos Siemers/Ratliff in Main Draw Doubles
Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff, the No. 14-ranked doubles team, rallied for a first-round win against Auburn's No. 17-ranked Ariana Arseneault and Carolyn Ansari. The Buckeye duo dropped the first set, 6-2, before winning the second, 6-3, and prevailing in a match tiebreaker, 12-10. They took on the top seed, Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty of North Carolina, in the second round Thursday, dropping the match, 6-1, 6-2. Â
Cantos Siemers in Singles
Cantos Siemers, ranked 16th, lost her first match in the 32-player singles main draw to No. 51-ranked Dana Guzman of Oklahoma, 7-6 (3), 6-3. In the first round of consolation the Buckeye downed Maria Berlanga of Tulsa, 6-3, 7-5.
In the consolation quarterfinals, the Buckeye faced No. 22-ranked Carolyn Ansari of Auburn. The Tiger won the first set 6-4, before Cantos Siemers rolled to a 6-1 second set victory. Ansari pulled away in the third, taking the set, 6-2, to advance.
Ratliff and Bereznyak in QualifyingÂ
The 64-player qualifying draw started Monday morning.
Sydni Ratliff, ranked 27th and the No. 5 seed in qualifying, defeated Kallista Liu of Maryland in the first round, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. She faced Dana Guzman of Oklahoma in round two, dropping the match, 6-1, 6-4.
No. 69-ranked Shelly Bereznyak took on Kelly Keller of Arkansas in the opening round, falling 6-3, 7-5. Bereznyak had a consolation match Tuesday morning against Florida State's Anna Arkadianou. The Seminole took the match, 6-3, 6-1.
Perry in Prequalifying
Freshman Luciana Perry competed in prequalifying singles at the ITA All-American Championships Saturday and Sunday.Â
The Buckeye rookie, seeded 13th in prequalifying and the No. 10-ranked newcomer in college tennis, won in straight sets over Elizabeth Goldsmith of San Diego in the first round, 6-1, 6-1.
Saturday, Perry was a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 winner vs. Virginia's Sara Ziodato in the second round, claiming the final three games to take the third set and advance. In the third round against No. 99-ranked Malaika Rapolu of Texas, the No. 8 seed in prequalifying, Perry fell 6-4, 6-3.
