Buckeyes Set for ITA Midwest Regional Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – This week, the Ohio State women's tennis team is heading to East Lansing, Mich., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The tournament starts with qualifying singles Thursday, with singles and doubles main draw action Friday through Tuesday.

The Buckeyes in the Regional
Teah Chavez is in the qualifying singles draw, looking to earn one of 16 main draw spots. Buckeyes in the main draw are Madeline Atway, Shelly Bereznyak, Akanksha Bhan, Irina Cantos Siemers, Luciana Perry, Sydni Ratliff, Dani Schoenly and Audrey Spencer.

Ohio State has four doubles teams in the draw – Atway/Chavez, Bereznyak/Ratliff, Spencer/Bhan and Cantos Siemers/Perry.

Cantos Siemers and Ratliff won the regional doubles title in 2021. Cantos Siemers was the singles runner up that year and Ratliff was the singles runner up a season ago.

Kowase Inducted into Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame
Last weekend, All-American Miho Kowase was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame. She is the seventh Buckeye women's tennis player to be enshrined, joining Kristy Dascoli, Leann Grimes, Maria Olazagasti, Monica Rincon and Barbara Wetters-Blosser. A doubles national champion with Francesa Di Lorenzo, Kowase is the program's all-time leader in singles and combined singles/doubles wins and is second all-time in doubles victories. Looking Ahead
The final fall events are the UT Home Invitational hosted by Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 26-29 and the ITA Fall National Championships Nov. 1-4 in San Diego, Calif.
