COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State returns home to host league-leading Rutgers for a three-game series starting Friday evening. First pitch Friday is set for 6:05 p.m. and it will be firework night at Bill Davis Stadium.
These will be just the 18th, 19th and 20th games all-time between the two programs. All but four of the previous 17 meetings have come since 2015 when Rutgers joined the Big Ten. Ohio State leads the all-time series 10-7. Last season, Rutgers took 2-of-3 games in Piscataway in a tightly contested series.

Parking Note
- Fans coming to Saturday’s game should park in Gray Lot 3 (next to the stadium) and be prepared to exit near Jesse Owens Stadium. There is a concert Saturday evening at the Schottenstein Center and parking attendants will be directing traffic following the game.
Ohio State Quick Hitters
- Ohio State is coming off a thrilling comeback victory on Sunday in the series finale at rival Michigan, scoring three runs in the ninth to take a 6-5 victory.
- The Buckeyes are 13-23 overall and 3-10 in Big Ten play.
- The pitching staff remains third in the Big Ten in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.3.
- Senior co-captain Zach Dezezno seems to be barreling every ball he hits recently. He hit .471 with four doubles, three home runs and nine runs batted in at Michigan last weekend. Had a home run in all three games, including a grand slam in the middle game.
- Dezenzo has 31 career home runs and his next will move him into the Top 10 in program history. The Alliance, Ohio native has played in 150 career games and his next run scored will be the 100th of his career.
- Senior Colton Bauer missed nearly two weeks (six games) with an ankle injury but returned to the lineup last weekend in Michigan and had a hit in each game. His hit on Sunday came in the ninth and put the Buckeyes ahead 6-5. Bauer is currently riding a career-long nine-game hitting streak and is hitting .297 on the season.
- Kade Kern has reached base in each of the last 19 games, the longest streak of his career. He had a streak of 15 games last season as a freshman. Kern has had a hit in 17 of his last 19 games and is batting .396 with five doubles and four home runs during Big Ten play.
- Senior Marcus Ernst’s had six hits last weekend, including his second home run of the season. He continues to lead the team in batting at .360 and leads the Big Ten in walks per game at 0.86.
- Freshman Trey Lipsey leads the team in on-base percentage at .469 and is one of two Buckeyes batting over .300 at .319. He clubbed his fifth home run of the season with two outs in the ninth inning on Sunday at Michigan, tying the game at 5-5. Lipsey has also been solid in the field this season, converting all 53 chances without an error.
- Catcher Archer Brookman collected four hits and a home run in two starts last weekend in Ann Arbor. He is hitting .284 on the season with two home runs and 11 runs batted in.
- Freshman Tyler Pettorini is the seventh-toughest batter in the Big Ten to strikeout at 8.4 at-bats per K.
- On the mound, Nate Haberthier has struck out 19 batters over his last four starts. He has allowed just 10 walks in 43.2 innings over nine starts. He leads the Big Ten in walks per nine innings at 2.06.
- Isaiah Coupet continues to lead the Big Ten and is eighth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings at 14.13. He has struck out 67 batters in 42.2 innings.
- TJ Brock 2.1 scoreless innings last week in Ann Arbor, picking up the win on Sunday. He struck out four and allowed just one hit. On the year, he has 21 strikeouts in 16.0 innings.
- Ethan Hammerberg and Jake Johnson are tied for the team lead with 18 appearances. Hammerberg has 38 strikeouts in 26.2 innings and leads the team with three saves. Johnson has a 3.91 ERA in 25.1 innings.
- Wyatt Loncar pitched well in his Sunday start against Michigan, going 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out seven. He didn’t allow a hit through the first four innings.
The Opponent
- Rutgers is 32-9 on the season and leads the Big Ten at 12-3 in conference play
- The Scarlet Knights lead the conference in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.318), hits (494), runs (9.3 per game), slugging percentage (.505), on-base percentage (.416) and doubles (101).
- Defensively, Rutgers is the best fielding team in the league, and it also is fifth in the country in team ERA at 22.
- Nick Cimillo is batting .400 on the season, which is second in the league. He and Danny DiGeorgio are also 1-2 in the conference in on-base percentage at .506 and .497, respectively.
- On the mound, Jared Kollar is 6-1 with a 2.68 ERA. He is second in the Big Ten in WHIP at 0.96 and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 4.20.
- Dale Stanavich leads the Big Ten with eight saves on the year.
