COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seven student-athletes from the Ohio State Track and Field team will represent the Buckeyes at this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships, taking place in Birmingham, Alabama. Fans can follow along with the meet on ESPN3 and through live results (links above).
- The Buckeyes finished second on both the men’s and women’s side at the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the end of February.
- The Ohio State women were ranked 15th in the latest USTFCCCA weekly poll on Monday.
- Adelaide Aquilla (field), Anavia Battle (track) and Tyler Johnson (track) were all named Big Ten Athletes of the Championships, while Tyrese Fajardo joined Aquilla as the Sportsmanship Honorees.
- The Ohio State men had nine earn a spot on an all-conference team while the women had six. Three on each squad were named to the first team – Aquilla, Battle and Jaimie Robinson on the women’s side and Johnson, Luke Bendick and Leo Uusimaki on the men’s side.
- Aquilla enters the NCAA Championships as the top-ranked female shot putter in the country (19.09m). She defended her Big Ten title last week and will compete in the shot put on Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
- Battle is ranked second in the nation in the women’s 200m (22.39) with the fourth-fastest time ever by a collegiate female. Battle won the 200m and the 60m at the Big Ten Championships and is set to compete in the 200m semifinals on Friday at 9:25 p.m. ET for a chance to run in Saturday evening’s finals (8:50 p.m. ET).
- Johnson is third in the country in the men’s 400m (45.31) after winning both the 400m and 200m at the Big Ten Championships. He’ll run in the 400m semifinals on Friday at 5:25 p.m. ET as he tries to earn a qualifying spot in Saturday’s finals (5:20 p.m. ET).
- Clarence Foote-Talley ranks sixth nationally in the men’s triple jump (16.38m) and will compete on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. ET.
- Leo Uusimaki won the men’s heptathlon at the Big Ten Championships (5,789) and ranks 12th in the country. The heptathlon competition this weekend will span Friday and Saturday with the first event on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. ET and the first on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
- Luke Bendick captured the men’s Big Ten title in the pole vault (5.45m) and sits at 14th in the country. He’ll compete on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
- Amaya Ugarte is ranked 14th in the nation in the women’s high jump (1.84m). The women’s high jump competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
MASK POLICY
All employees and visitors must wear a mask or face covering when indoors in the city of Birmingham, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, according to a mask ordinance put in place by the city.
