Lawrence Stellar in Goal in 2-1 Win vs. Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (5-8-1, 1-5-0) scored a pair of first half goals and made the lead stand to defeat visiting Penn State (8-6-1, 4-2-0) 2-1 on Senior Night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Both Laurence Wootton and Devyn Etling scored on headers off set pieces in the opening 45 minutes.
Ohio State keeper Noah Lawrence had one of his better games as a Buckeye with six saves on 14 PSU shots.
Andrew Privett of the Nittany Lions scored in the 67th minute off a corner to make it 2-1 Buckeyes. Penn State led 9-4 in corners for the game.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes scored off the head of sophomore captain Laurence Wootton in the 7th minute on a corner kick from classmate Parker Grinstead.
For Wootton, it was his team-leading fifth goal of the season and sixth of his career. Grinstead recorded his first assist of the year and third as a Buckeye.
Wootton initiated Ohio State's second goal, a header by Devyn Etling, in the 17th minute off a set piece from a free kick left of the Nittany Lion net.
Etling now has 13 career goals with three this season. Wootton, who this week was named one of the Top 25 players nationally by TopDrawerSoccer, entered the game leading the Buckeyes in points with nine and added to that total to finish the game with 13.
- Ohio State has been involved in 10 games decided by one goal in addition to a double overtime 1-all draw vs. Creighton, a 2-0 win over Cleveland State, the 2-0 loss to Wisconsin and a loss (0-3) at Indiana.
- Ohio State was on the attack the entire first half with an 8-6 lead on shots and a 4-2 edge on attempts on net.
- Noah Lawrence made his fifth start in goal for the Buckeyes this season. He responded with six saves.

- The Buckeyes are 15-22-4 all-time vs. Penn State, including an 11-6-2 record in Columbus.
- Seven seniors were recognized prior to the game Friday vs. the Nittany Lions. Three (Noah Lawrence, Joe Ortiz and Samuel Buzzas) were recognized in the spring but elected to return for the 2021 Fall Season. Sam Mason, Tommy Marusic, Luis Hernandez and Luke Kiley also were honored.
- Laurence Wootton, a sophomore captain midfielder, has been named a Top 25 player in college soccer by TopDrawerSoccer. He is ranked No. 21 on the list of the Top 100 players nationally.
- The game vs. Penn State was played under cloudy skies with light rain and temperatures in the low-50s.
