Buckeyes Top Wolverines 2-1 on Late Wootton Goal

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (6-8-1, 2-5-0) topped Michigan (7-6-3, 4-3-1) 2-1 Tuesday with sophomore Laurence Wootton providing the heroics with the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute.
The Buckeyes were the aggressor over the final 10 minutes with several quality chances before Wootton, who earlier in the day was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, headed in a corner from freshman Anthony Samways.
Ohio State keeper Noah Lawrence was credited with four saves on 12 Michigan shots, five on net. The Buckeyes took 15 shots for the game. Each team had four corners.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes scored first on a goal by senior Xavier Green in the 18th minute. Green took a pass from junior Channing Chasten right of the net about 18 yards out and found the left corner of the Wolverine net.
Michigan tied it 1-all on a Kevin Buca goal in the 33rd minute to send the teams into the locker room at the break.
Wootton, positioned on the right side of the Michigan goal, headed in Samways corner to the left corner of the net for the win.
- Wootton’s goal was his sixth of the season and seventh of this career. He has scored in each of the last two Ohio State wins and assisted on another.
- It was the second assist of the season for the freshman Samways.
- Green’s goal was his fourth of the season and sixth of his career.
- Chasten has three assists on the year and five for his 39-game career.
- The Wolverines led 10-6 in shots at the half. Michigan took the only cornet in the first 45 minutes.
- Noah Lawrence made his sixth start in goal for the Buckeyes this season. He responded with four saves.

Notes
- The Buckeyes are 21-13-2 all-time vs. Michigan, including a 14-7-1 record in Columbus.
- Earlier in the day, sophomore captain Laurence Wootton was named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his three-point effort the last time out vs. Penn State. He scored once and assisted on another goal in the 2-1 win over the Nittany Lions last Friday.
- The game vs. Michigan was played under windy conditions, partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low-50s.
