Borges, Maccani Tabbed as Senior CLASS Candidates

COLUMBUS – Ohio State’s two senior captains – defenseman Matt Borges and midfielder Logan Maccani – have been selected as candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced. Ohio State is one of just five schools nationally to have multiple Senior CLASS Award candidates.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the winner.
Borges has started 41 consecutive games at close defense for the Scarlet and Gray and is the team’s active career leader with 90 ground balls. Already a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honoree this year, Borges also had 28 career caused turnovers to his credit. In the community, he’s been involved with the 2nd and 7 Foundation, Ronald McDonald’s House Charities of Central Ohio and “Grow the Game” initiatives with local high school physical education teachers and lacrosse coaches. Like Borges, Maccani – a defensive midfielder – has played in every game since 2016 (56 in all) and has 68 career ground balls. He and Borges have helped the Buckeyes lead the Big Ten in goals-against average the last two seasons. Off the field, Maccani is among the most active members in the community. He’s read to second grades as part of the 2nd and 7 Foundation, worked with the Upper Arlington Youth Lacrosse Clinic and volunteered with Slice of Columbus, an event in downtown Columbus that raises money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
