
Ohio State Downs Dayton in Fall Exhibition

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team beat Dayton 8-5 in a fall ball exhibition game Friday night at Bill Davis Stadium. The game was 12 innings, predetermined by the coaches.
Senior Brady Cherry led the Buckeyes with a triple and two walks and also had two strikeouts on the mound, while senior Kobie Foppe went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Dillon Dingler also had a pair of hits.
Ohio State scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, respectively. The Dayton pitching staff allowed five walks in the two innings combine to allow the Scarlet and Gray to take a 5-1 lead. Cherry tripled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a RBI single by senior Malik Jones to make it 6-1. Dingler knocked a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Defensively, freshman outfielder Nolan Clegg had the play of the game in right field to record the first out of the top of the ninth with a full-extension catch at the track on the right field line.
A combined 12 Buckeye pitchers made an appearance on the mound for the Scarlet and Gray and the OSU hurlers struck out 12 Flyer hitters.
The Buckeyes begin their annual Scarlet & Gray World Series with game one beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Bill Davis Stadium. Admission is free. Fans will need to use the Pay-N-Display machines for parking for the series.
