COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team continues its nine-game homestand, hosting Purdue in a three-game series Friday-Sunday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The series opens at 6:35 p.m. ET Friday. The middle game is set for 6 p.m. ET Saturday live on BTN. The teams will conclude the series at 1:05 p.m. ET Sunday in Columbus. The Buckeyes head into the series with a 10-14 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten play, while the Boilermakers travel to the Buckeye state with a 13-11 overall mark and 1-2 record in conference action.

NOTES ON THE BUCKEYES
- The 2017 campaign marks the 134th season of Ohio State baseball and 21st at Bill Davis Stadium.
- The team is led by seventh-year head coach Greg Beals, who led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten tournament championship and NCAA Regional in 2016.
- The Buckeyes are in the midst of a nine-game homestand after going 8-8 overall following the first four weeks on the road to start the year.
- The team is led by a five-member senior class that includes four fifth-year seniors: Jake Post, Shea Murray, Joe Stoll and Zach Ratcliff.
- Senior infielder Jalen Washington and redshirt junior pitcher Adam Niemeyer were both named captains for the Scarlet and Gray.
- Washington was named a Senior CLASS Award candidate, the organization announced Monday.
- Seth Kinker was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List.
- Yianni Pavlopoulos joined Washington and Kinker on the B1G Players to Watch List.
- Ohio State welcomed 15 newcomers to the 35-man roster, including seven junior college transfers.
- The Buckeyes went 3-3 in road games and 5-5 in neutral site contests to begin the season. Highlighting the early part of the schedule were ranked wins over then-No. 5 and No. 1 Oregon State (6-1; Feb. 24) and No. 24 FGCU (5-4, March 12).
- Last time out, Ohio State posted its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Ohio.
- Tre’ Gantt leads the team with a .318 batting average, collecting six doubles, two triples and two home runs.
- The OSU pitching staff has seen 15 different arms on the mound this year. Kinker is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22.0 innings pitched in 12 relief appearances.
- Ohio State is second in the league in triples (8), fourth in home runs (22) and fifth in walks (103).
- Washington is eighth in the league in RBI (21). Noah McGowan leads the team with five home runs, while Ratcliff has homered four times.
- Ohio State is 2-4 at home this year. Last season, the Buckeyes went 23-4 at Bill Davis Stadium.
21st SEASON AT BILL DAVIS STADIUM
Ohio State is 339-169 all-time at Bill Davis Stadium for a fine .671 winning percentage. Ohio State is 177-105 vs. the Big Ten Conference at home. The Buckeyes went 23-4 at home last year for fifth-most home wins in school history.
FIRST SHUTOUT OF 2017
Five Ohio State pitchers combine to tally the team’s first shutout of the season last time out as the Buckeyes won, 3-0, over in-state opponent Ohio last Tuesday night. Austin Woodby pitched four scoreless innings in a controlled start to get the win, while Reece Calvert, Joe Stoll, Yianni Pavlopoulos and Seth Kinker combined to allow just three hits with five strikeouts in the final five innings of work. Dominic Canzone had his first career three-hit day and Jacob Barnwell drove in two runs and scored another. More than 1,600 fans were in attendance, marking the largest attended midweek contest at Bill Davis Stadium since the 2010 campaign.
SCOUTING PURDUE
The Boilermakers are 13-11 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play. Last weekend, Purdue fell in two of three games at Iowa. The team won its B1G opener by a score of 2-0 as Nick Dalesandro and Jacson McGowan delivered consecutive run-scoring extra-base hits in the eighth inning. Tanner Andrews worked six scoreless innings and now has three shutout victories over his first six starts. Dalesandro is hitting .366 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs and 20 RBI.
OHIO STATE VS. PURDUE
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series, 145-61-1, against Purdue. Ohio State is 45-20 all-time at home vs. the Boilermakers and have won nine out of the last 10 meetings. Last year, the Scarlet and Gray turned their season around after sweeping Purdue in a three-game road series in West Lafayette, Ind., to begin the final month of the 2016 regular season. Tre’ Gantt batted .333 (3-for-9) with a run scored in the series, while Seth Kinker had 2.1 innings of relief work with two strikeouts and allowed one hit and no runs.

- Ohio State is 10-5 when scoring first and 10-1 when leading after eight innings.
- The Buckeyes are 5-2 when outhitting their opponents.
- Tre’ Gantt leads the team with eight multi-hit games.

SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Jalen Washington, a senior captain and infielder on the Ohio State baseball team, is a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Monday. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. Washington is in his second year as captain for the Buckeyes. The native of Twinsburg, Ohio, Washington had played in 109 career games with 92 career starts and had registered 16 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 65 RBI, 24 stolen bases, 50 runs scored and 81 hits in his career. Washington is a young man of very high character. He is a two-time captain, voted on by his teammates, and his leadership is invaluable to upholding the high standards at The Ohio State University and in the baseball program. He has passed out shoes to children in schools in Columbus area and took a mission trip to Bolivia with Soles4Souls. During the trip, he participated in a one-week shoe drive, passing out shoes to schools, orphanages, and underprivileged children and families. He was a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in 2016 and was on the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. This season, he was named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List.
