Stanley Victorious in Outdoor Opener in Nashville – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Billy Stanley cleared 74.38 meters (244-0.50) to win the javelin throw in the outdoor season debut for the Ohio State men’s track and field team Saturday at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
A 2013 All-American and Big Ten champion in the javelin, Stanley’s winning mark ranks among the Top 5 in Division I this season. It is the second year in a row the South Park, Pa., native has won the event at Vanderbilt – he made his collegiate debut with a school-record throw last season.
Stanley led a strong Buckeye showing at the two-day meet on the campus of Vanderbilt University. Ohio State won a total seven events and enjoyed contributions from all areas. A look at the highlights for the Scarlet and Gray:
110m Hurdles
Third place went to senior Justin Hines in a time of 14.62. Donte’ McDaniel of Alabama A&M captured the win in 14.49.
400m
Junior Nick Batcha, a 200-meter specialist, placed fifth in 49.89. Western Kentucky’s Ja’Karyus Redwine was the winner in 47.95.
800m
Junior Josh Sabo used a time of 1:54.77 to take third place, while freshman Dominik Seitzer was fifth in 1:55.94. David Mokone of Western Kentucky was first in 1:52.77.
1500m Invite
Sabo placed third in 3:49.79, just shy of a personal best, while senior Andy Arnold was fifth in 3:50.70. Mokone was once again the winner for WKU in 3:48.48.
2000m Steeplechase
Ohio State went 1-2 in the event. Junior Jackson Neff was first in 5:58.56, while sophomore Jordan Redd was second in 5:58.71.
3000m
First place went to sophomore Blake Taneff in a time of 8:28.42.
Long Jump
Senior Cory Kunze claimed first-place honors with a jump of 7.23 meters (23-8.75).
Triple Jump
A mark of 14.98 meters (49-1.75) from junior Julian Vann was good for a first-place finish.
High Jump
Senior Brant Reardon cleared the bar at 1.90 meters (6-2.75) for a second-place finish. Cyrus Johnson was first in 2.10 meters (6-10.75).
Shot Put
Sophomore J.C. Murasky was victorious with a throw of 17.86 meters (58-7.25).
Hammer Throw
Runner-up went to sophomore Joseph Velez at 58.59 meters (192-3.00). Joe Frye of the Music City Mavericks was a runaway winner at 64.28 meters (210-11.00).
Discus
Freshman Aaron Zedella was third at 44.16 meters (144-10.75). Derek De St. Jean of Wabash was first overall at 47.50 meters (155-10.25).
Pole Vault
A height of 4.75 meters (15-7.00) helped senior Cody Marshall to a first-place finish.
