Ohio State Tops Bowling Green, 8-4 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team defeated Bowling Green, 8-4, on a damp Wednesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 23-18 on the season while the Falcons drop to 16-24.
Ohio State took the lead in the bottom of the second off Bowling Green starter Trevor Blaylock when Brad Hallberg doubled to left-center to lead off the inning and scored on a one-out single to left by Kirby Pellant.
The Buckeyes added two more on a pair of hits in the bottom of the third. Mike Carroll singled with one down, Brad Hallberg followed with a walk and Patrick Porter doubled to right-center to score Carroll. David Corna then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Hallberg for the 3-0 lead.
Bowling Green tied it in the top of the fifth against Ohio State reliever Trace Dempsey. Brian Bien singled to lead off the inning, Patrick Lancaster followed with a bunt single and Tyler Wynn knocked a three-run home run to left to tie it 3-3.
Ohio State then took the lead right back when Carroll singled to right off Bowling Green reliever Kevin Delapaz, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout and scored on another wild pitch for a 4-3 lead.
The Buckeyes tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth, using a Bowling Green error, two walks and singles by Aaron Gretz, Josh Dezse and Hallberg to push the lead to 7-3.
Bowling Green was able to cut the lead to 7-4 in the top of the seventh against David Fathalikhani when Bien was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came around to score on an RBI double by Lancaster.
Ohio State capped the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth when Ryan Cypret singled to lead off the inning and scored on a one-out RBI single to center by Hallberg.
Hallberg finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Dezse, Carroll, and Porter each had two hits. Dempsey earned his first career win, striking out a pair over two innings.
The Buckeyes travel to University Park, Pa., for a three-game set with Penn State beginning Friday.

– Brad Hallberg recorded his team-high 15th multi-hit game.
– The three through six hitters in the Buckeye lineup combined to go 9-for 16 with four RBI and four runs scored.
