Nickles Breaks Own School Record in the Heptathlon at Akron – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Heath Nickles broke his own school record in the heptathlon Saturday afternoon at the Akron Combined Events in Akron, Ohio, on his way to a first-place finish at Stile Field House.
Nickles used a personal-best score of 5624 – 10th-best in Division I this season – to take home the win. Michael McCarty, who led at the end of competition Friday, settled for second with a PR of 5524, a top-15 score nationally. Cory Kunze was third with 5317 points, also a PR, to complete the Buckeye sweep of the top 3.
Meanwhile, at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., Will Knickel and Devin Smith turned in seventh-place performances in the mile and high jump, respectively, to highlight day two at the Loftus Sports Center for Ohio State. Knickel completed his race in a PR of 4:10.86, while Smith cleared the high jump bar at 2.03m (6-8).
