VIDEO: Bogle Breaks School Record
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Demoye Bogle posted a school-record time of 7.76 seconds* in the 60m hurdles – the eighth best in Division I track and field this season – to take first place for 15th-ranked Ohio State Friday night at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
Bogle’s school record highlighted a strong presentation by the Scarlet and Gray against a deep and talented field – a total of five ranked teams were in action at the Albuquerque Convention Center, including No. 2 Florida and No. 4 Texas. The meet kicked off a busy weekend for the Buckeyes, who will compete tomorrow at both the Flotrack Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
In addition to Bogle, a number of other Buckeyes were in fine form, including All-American Thomas Murdaugh, who posted the second-best collegiate time in the nation this season (46.44*) and a runner-up finish in the 400m, and Max Mays, who recorded a PR of 21.11m (69-3.25) in the weight throw, seventh-best in Division I as of Friday evening. Mays’s distance was good for fifth place in the OSU indoor record book and runner-up honors behind Alec Faldermeyer of UCLA (NCAA automatic qualifier, 21.62m/70-11.25).
Additional meet highlights for the Buckeyes:
• Marcus Brooks was the runner-up in the 600m dash (1:21.17) behind New Mexico’s James Senior (1:20.82).
• A 18.15m (59-6.75) toss helped Matt DeChant to fourth place in the shot put behind champion Jacob Thormaehlen of Texas, who captured first place with an NCAA automatic qualifying-toss of 20.25m (66-5.25)
• Michael Hartfield placed sixth in the triple jump at 15.07m (49-5.50). Arizona State’s Chris Bernard was the winner with a 15.92m (52-2.75) leap.
• Antonio Blanks placed seventh (48.03) in the 400m behind Murdaugh and first-place finisher and unattached competitor Gil Roberts.
• Ohio State’s 4x400m relay team of Blanks, Marvel Brooks, Korbin Smith, and Marcus Brooks placed fourth in 3:14.93. Oregon took the title with a time of 3:09.38.
