COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a strong performance from freshman starter Greg Greve, Gray evened the Scarlet & Gray World Series at one game apiece with a 2-0 victory Friday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium.
“We are starting to play good baseball little by little,” head coach Greg Beals said. “Our starting pitchers were good today outside of the two walks that led to runs. Our defense is turning double plays, taking care of the ball and really helping our pitchers.”
The only two runs of the game came after a pair of leadoff walks by sophomore starter Brett McKinney in the bottom of the second. Greveled off with a free pass and was followed by Jacob Hayes. Greve came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Greg Solomon and Hayes scored on an RBI groundout by Phil Jaskot.
Greve picked up the win, tossing five scoreless innings, scattering five hits while walking one and striking out three. Andrew Armstrong earned the save, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out a batter. McKinney suffered the loss, giving up two earned runs on three hits over five innings while striking out five and walking two.
Game 3 of the Scarlet & Gray World Series is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Bill Davis Stadium.
