COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Monday after throwing a nine-inning complete game without allowing an earned run in OSU’s 6-2 win Friday at Purdue.
Luebke (Jr., Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local) struck out seven in the contest without issuing a walk as he improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play this season. He scattered seven hits on the day in notching the 12th complete game of his career.
It is his second pitcher of the week award this season and the third of his career. The performance dropped Luebke’s season ERA to 1.84 on the year and to 2.21 in conference play. He has 60 strikeouts and just 18 walks.
The Buckeyes begin a five-game week vs. Akron at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium. After Akron, the Buckeyes welcome Michigan State to Columbus for a four-game Big Ten series Friday-Sunday at Bill Davis Stadium.
Ohio State sits at 26-12 overall and 11-7 in the Big Ten, tied for third with Penn State, after taking three of four at Purdue over the weekend. OSU sits 2.5 games behind Minnesota for second. Michigan is in first place, five games ahead of the Buckeyes.
