The Ohio State baseball team falls to Ball State, 5-0, Wednesday in the first game of a non-conference, seven-inning doubleheader at Bill Davis Stadium. The second seven-inning game follows.
Ohio State is 18-10 overall, while Ball State is 15-20 overall.
The Buckeyes play host to Indiana Friday-Sunday in a four-game Big Ten series at Bill Davis Stadium. The nine-inning game one starts at 6:35 p.m. Friday, followed by two seven inning games beginning at 1:05 p.m. Saturday and a final nine-inning game at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
Ball State took an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second and two in the top of the third for a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals stretched their lead to 5-0 with an additional run in the top of the sixth.
Richie Fralick pitched a tremendous game for the Cardinals to improve to 2-1 on the year. Fralick went five innings, surrendering just three hits, walking none and striking out one. Brenden Stines pitched 0.2 innings for BSU and Kyle Heyne registered his ninth save on the year after relieving Stines with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth before getting Ball State out of the jam.
The sixth inning was the only inning that OSU had a runner advance to third base as the Buckeyes could only muster four hits in the game. Junior Tony Kennedy (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) had two of the four hits for Ohio State.
Rory Meister (Jr., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison) made his second career start and went two innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits. He also walked two and fell to 2-3 on the year. Freshman Eric Best (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) entered in the third inning and pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits. Best walked none and struck out four. Sophomore Darren Sizemore (Hamilton, Ohio/Ross/Georgetown University) pitched a perfect final inning for OSU.
Ball State has nine hits in the game and neither team had any errors.
