Coach Todd earns 900th career victory, Buckeyes down Harvard 5-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Ohio State baseball team defeated Harvard, 5-3, Friday at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., giving OSU head coach Bob Todd his 900th career win and wrapping up its spring break trip with a perfect 7-0 record.
The Buckeye skipper is 900-470-2 all-time and 776-388-2 at Ohio State. His 900 wins rank tied for 16th among active coaches in NCAA Division I and tied for 46th all-time.
The Buckeyes have won 12 straight games and are 13-3 overall. Ohio State’s home opener is Wednesday, March 28, vs. Toledo at 2 p.m. ET at Bill Davis Stadium.
After three scoreless innings, the Buckeyes took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. Ryan Dew (Fr., Croton, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) started the rally with a one-out walk. Singles by Jason Zoeller (Sr., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and Cory Rupert (Fr., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison) loaded the bases for Jacob Howell (Sr., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland). Howell followed with a 3-RBI triple to get the Buckeyes on the board.
Ohio State added a run in the fourth as junior catcher Eric Fryer (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) led off the inning with a double and two batters later scored on a Justin Miller (So., Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) sacrifice fly. The Buckeyes tacked on another run in the seventh on three singles, capped by an RBI single by Miller.
The Buckeyes led 5-0 until the ninth when the Crimson made the game interesting. With two outs, Harvard put runners on first and third with a walk and double. Two pitches later Andrew Prince homered to right to make it 5-3. Harvard added another single before OSU closed out the game.
Junior Cory Luebke (Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local) started and pitched six scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 on the year. The lefty allowed just two hits while striking out eight and walking one.
Sophomore J.B. Shuck (Galion, Ohio/Galion) relieved Luebke in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings. Shuck allowed no hits, struck out three and walked one. Sophomore Jake Hale (Albany, Ohio/Alexander) pitched the ninth for OSU and gave up the three Harvard runs.
Howell was 3-for-4 for the Buckeyes with 3 RBI and Matt Angle (Jr., Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling) was 3-for-4.
Shawn Haviland was the losing pitcher for Harvard, giving up five earned runs in 6.2 innings. The Crimson used three total pitchers. Ohio State had 13 hits in the game, Harvard 5.
