J.B. Shuck Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State baseball player J.B. Shuck was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team, which was announced Thursday by Collegiate Baseball.
Shuck, a true freshman from Galion, Ohio (Galion), was 8-5 and had a 2.51 ERA, the best by a Buckeye pitcher and the fourth best in the Big Ten. He struck out 57 and walked 33 in 79.0 innings. He gave up 75 hits though only 22 of his 40 runs allowed were earned. He made starts in 13 of his 15 appearances, tossed one complete game and combined with teammate Dan Barker for a 6-0 shutout vs. Cornell on March 21. His complete game was against Illinois on April 9 when he allowed just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts. Against Iowa the week before, Shuck took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and struck out eight Hawkeye batters. He upset No. 12 Missouri in his first college start.
The ninth Buckeye to earn Big Ten Player of the Year honors, Shuck also batted in 40 games and made 31 starts between first base (15), left field (13), right field (two) and designated hitter (one). He had a .325 batting average with 40 hits, including six doubles and two triples. He drove in 19 runs. Shuck had a hit in his first collegiate at bat when he pinch hit against Wake Forest. His average climbed as high as .464 and did not drop below .400 until the team’s 25th game of the season.
Ohio State was 37-21 overall and finished third in the Big Ten with a 19-12 conference mark.
