COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State left-handed starting pitcher Cory Luebke was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team Sunday by a vote of media covering the event.
Luebke, a sophomore from Maria Stein, Ohio (Marion Local), allowed only three hits, walked one and struck out six in beating No. 2 seed Northwestern 9-0 Thursday at the Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. He threw 112 pitches in his 8.0-inning start to improve to 7-6 on the year. He combined with Rory Meister (So., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison), who kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard despite allowing a hit. The shout was the fifth this season by the Ohio State pitching staff, which came into the tournament with the league’s best team ERA.
Michigan beat Minnesota 9-4 Sunday to win its first Big Ten tournament championship since 1999.
