COLUMBUS, Ohio – Heavy rain forced Ohio State and Minnesota off the field 37 minutes into the third game of the series. The game will be resumed Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the point of interruption. Game four of the series will follow the conclusion of that game.
The Golden Gophers led 3-1 in the bottom of the second when play was halted at 4:36 p.m., EDT. There was one Buckeye on base and one out.
Minnesota scored two runs in the top of the first inning, getting RBI from Kyle Baran and Tony Leseman for an early 2-0 lead. Ronnie Bourquin (Jr., Canton, Ohio/Canton South) plated Matt Angle (So., Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling), who reached on a fielder’s choice to make it a one-run game. In the top of the second, Andy Hunter singled to center to score Matt Nohelty, who reached on a two-out infield single.
Jason Zoeller (Jr., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) beat the throw on a ground ball to third base. Hunter, the Minnesota first baseman, could not come up with the ball and it hit him in the eye to force defensive changes by the Gophers. The game was suspended with Wes Schirtzinger (Jr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) coming to the plate.
Ohio State started Jake Hale (Fr., Albany, Ohio/Alexander) and Minnesota started Brian Bull.
The conclusion of game three and all of game four will be broadcast on AM 920 WMNI and on ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
