Baseball Opens the Aggie Continental Classic With a 13-0 Loss to Oregon State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Ohio State baseball team (9-4 overall) opened the 2000 Aggie Continental Airlines Classic with a 13-0 loss to the Oregon State Beavers (11-7).
Oregon State took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a pair of two-run doubles by Eric Stark and Bryan Ingram off OSU starting pitcher E.J. Laratta (So., Englewood, Colo.).
The Beavers then tacked on five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Tim Dryden and Zach Gordon drove in two runs each and Stephen Copeland drove in one to give Oregon State a commanding 9-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Beavers drove in four more runs on five hits to increase their lead to 13-0.
Laratta (2-2) was the losing pitcher. He went 4.1 innings, gave up ten hits, nine runs, walked three and struck out one. Oregon State’s Mark Newell improved to 3-1 on the year, pitching a complete game shutout.
John Mayor (Jr., Chesterfield, Mo.) did increase his hitting streak to 12-consecutive games with a single in the first inning.
The Buckeyes play their second game of the Aggie Continental Classic at 1 p.m. against Central Michigan.
