COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team has announced its 2001 schedule. It features 22 home dates at Bill Davis Stadium, a total of five weekends at home and three trips down South in the spring.
“Our team loves playing in Bill Davis Stadium,” head coach Bob Todd said. “Not only do we have one of the finest facilities in the country, we have the fans and atmosphere to back it up. There is nothing our team enjoys more than playing hard and winning games in front of our home crowd.
“This is one of the toughest schedules we have put together in years. But this should speak volumes of the confidence we have in our team this year. We are excited about the work our players have done in the offseason and the freshmen we’ve brought in. Our fans will continue to see us play at the high level they have been accustomed to seeing over the years.”
The Buckeyes won’t have much time to get acclimated to the playing field as they open the 2001 season Feb. 23 in Lafayette, La., at The Mardi Gras Ball. All three of OSU’s opponents are national powers and qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year – Nebraska, Wichita State and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Buckeyes will then travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for The Kennel Club Classic (March 2-4). The following weekend, Ohio State plays host to Detroit in a two-game series (March 9-10) at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes will then travel to Brandenton, Fla., for their Spring Break trip (March 16-25). OSU also will play host to four Big Ten weekend series in April and May.
