COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes shutout the Northwestern Wildcats, 3-0 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes notched their second win in as many days against the Wildcats, improving their record to 16-6 and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
Lead off hitter Mike Lockwood (Jr., Powell, Ohio), got the Buckeyes immediately on the board with a home run in the first inning. Lockwoods blast came off J.J. Standrings first pitch and cleared the centerfield wall.
Both teams displayed strong pitching with no scoring occurring until the bottom of the sixth. Andy Lee (Sr., West Chester, Ohio) kept the Wildcats in check, at one point retiring 11 straight Northwestern batters. Lee moves to 3-0, while Standring took the loss, falling to 3-2.
Ohio State captured the game in the sixth with Lockwood scoring off Chad Ehrnsbergers (So., Toledo, Ohio) single to left field. After being intentionally walked, Jason Trott (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) came around to score when Jason Driscoll (Jr, Middlefield, Ohio) reached on an error. The Buckeyes play game three of the four game series at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
