Baseball Comes Up Short on Sweep – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Michigan Wolverines took game four of the series against Ohio State, holding on for a 12-8 win at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes put up one run in the bottom of the first, taking the early lead. Mike Lockwood (So., Powell, Ohio) led of the inning with a double to right center field and advanced to third when Mark Carek (Sr., Bowling Green, Ohio) singled to right field. Lockwood scored when Mike Kremblas (Sr., Carroll, Ohio) grounded out to the first baseman. Michigan tied the score in the top of the second when Derek Besco reached on a Carek error and scored on Mick Kalahar’s sacrifice to center field. Starting pitcher Andy Lee (Jr., West Chester, Ohio) had some trouble with control in the inning, loading the bases but getting away with just one run suffered. The Wolverines took a 2-1 lead in the third as Scott Tousa walked to start the inning and came home when Jason Alcaraz ripped a double to the gap in right center field. Alcaraz was left stranded though as the next three batters grounded out in order. Jason Trott (Jr., Dublin, Ohio) singled to lead off the fourth inning and moved to third when Tom Durant (Jr., Columbus, Ohio) reached on an error by Mike Cervenak. Bryan Cranson walked Jason Driscoll (So., Middlefield, Ohio) to load the bases and then walked Lockwood to put Trott across the plate. Lee got into trouble in the top of the fifth as Michigan put up five runs to open up a 7-2 lead. Tousa singled to left to open up the stanza and moved to second when Jason Alcaraz singled to right. Derek Besco singled to center, scoring Tousa and then stole second and scored on Bryan Bobeda’s single. Bryan Besco stepped to the plate and launched his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot that put UM up by five. Derek Besco slammed his fourth home run of the season that brought home three more runs to give the Wolverines an 11-2 lead in the top of the sixth. Chad Ehrnsberger (Fr., Kalida, Ohio) recorded his second home run in the bottom of the inning, giving the Bucks a third run. The Wolverines added a final run in the seventh before OSU attempted to rally, scoring three times in the seventh and twice in the eighth. The Buckeyes are now 17-8 on the year and 5-3 in the Big Ten Conference. The team plays host to Youngstown State Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. %^$
