After an emotional 15-11 win in game one, the Buckeyes seemed flat and were ineffective in the second contest. The Buckeyes blew the chance for a huge inning in the top of the fourth, opening the stanza with three consecutive base hits without managing a run. With the bags full of Bucks, Matt Middleton (Jr., Conover, Ohio) reached on a fielder’s choice but Seimetz was out and the plate on the force play and Mike Kremblas (Sr., Carroll, Ohio) was thrown out at home attempting to score from second. Chad Ehrnsberger (Fr., Kalida, Ohio) popped up to first base, ending the inning and a chance to blow the game open.
Penn State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Eric Spadt sent his fifth home run of the year over the left center field fence, bringing in Chris Netwall on the play. Michael Campo and Chad Whitmoyer tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, both recording solo home runs off OSU starter Kurt Fullenkamp (Jr., Minster, Ohio) to move the lead to 4-1.
