No. 5 Ohio Wesleyan Drops Men’s Baseball in Bucks Home Opener – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a sub-par weekend at Northwestern, the Ohio State baseball team was handed a 10-7 loss by fifth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan at Bill Davis Stadium today.%^$

The Battling Bishops took the lead first, notching one run in the first inning. Brent Weaver led off with a single to center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh England. Ohio Wesleyan tacked on another run in the fourth, taking a 2-0 lead. England reached on a two base error when Dan Zabloudil (So., Newark, Ohio) dropped a fly ball as he was moving to his left in the outfield. He moved to third after tagging on a fly ball and was sacrificed home by Brooks Heminger.%^$

The Buckeyes finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice. Jason Driscoll (So., Middlefield, Ohio) walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He came home when Mark Carek (Sr., Bowling Green, Ohio) doubled to center field. Mike Kremblas (Sr., Carroll, Ohio) singled to right to bring in Carek moving the score to 2-2. Ryan Missler took reliever Kevin Goodrum (Fr., Mentor, Ohio) deep to center field in the top of the sixth inning to push the Bishops ahead 3-2.%^$

The Buckeyes tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Jason Trott (Jr., Dublin, Ohio) scored on Jason Turner’s (So., Versailles, Ohio) double to right field. The Bishops took a commanding lead in the top of the seventh inning, scoring six times. Phil Vogelmeier (Sr., Newark, Ohio) entered the game and loaded the bases on three straight walks. Mike Stafford (Sr., Canton, Mich.) came in to put out the fire but Dan Marchetti doubled and Missler hit his second home run of the game to put OWU up 9-3.%^$

Ohio State managed to add a fourth run in the bottom of the sixth when Tom Durant (Jr., Columbus, Ohio) walked, moved to second on a fielder’s choice and over to third when Driscoll reached on an error by the shortstop. Carek sacrificed Durant home for the Bucks only run of the inning. In the bottom of the eighth, the Buckeyes pulled to within two when Matt Middleton (Jr., Conover, Ohio) homered to left field bringing in Trott who had walked and Turner who had singled. OWU added a tenth run in the top of the ninth to seal the victory. Ohio Wesleyan remains undefeated at 20-0 and OSU drops to 14-7.%^$

The Buckeyes play host to Michigan this weekend for the home opening Big Ten weekend. The first night game ever in Ohio State Baseball history will be Friday at 6:35 p.m. against the Wolverines. %^$
