Game Recap
- Matthew Graveline had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes in the bottom of the second inning with a bunt towards the pitcher. Mitchell Okuley and Nick Erwin were both walked to load the bases. With two outs on the board, Josh McAlister singled to center field, driving in two runs to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead over the Golden Gophers.
- Graveline had the next hit for the Buckeyes, singling up the middle to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning, but a double play and a ground out left him stranded on base.
- In the bottom of the fifth with one out, McAlister singled to left field and, with two outs, Kade Kern hit an infield single and McAlister moved to third base on an error by Minnesota’s shortstop to put runners on the corners. The Golden Gophers, however, got the final out to keep Ohio State from adding to its lead.
- Erwin led things off with a single up the middle in the home half of the seventh; he advanced to second on a passed ball. McAlister walked to put two runners on. Trey Lipsey reached on a fielder’s choice that advanced Erwin to third, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes.
- The Golden Gophers tied the score, 2-2, with back-to-back solo homeruns to lead off the ninth inning. An RBI double gave them a one-run lead over the Buckeyes, 3-2.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Mitchell Okuley was walked and with two outs, McAlister was also walked, but Ohio State was unable to capitalize as they fell to Minnesota, 3-2, in the first game of a three-game series.
