
Buckeyes Fall to Washington in Opening Round of B1G Tournament

Game Recap
- Sahil Patel opened the game strong, striking out the side in the top of the first.
- The Huskies got on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead after two bases-loaded walks in the top of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Lee Ellis led off with a single through the left side, followed by a walk from Grant Mangrum. Ellis stole third and Mangrum advanced to second on a passed ball to put two runners in scoring position. With one out, a sacrifice fly from Alex Bemis plated Ellis to put Ohio State on the board. Henry Kaczmar stepped up to the plate next and he sent his program-record-tying 25th double of the season into left field to score Mangrum and tie the score, 2-2.
- Washington reclaimed the lead, 4-2, in the top of the fourth inning after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
- Dane Harvey doubled to left field to lead off the bottom of the fourth frame. Simpson then drew a walk to put two runners on. An RBI double from Mason Eckelman and a sacrifice fly from Ellis sent two runs across to tie the score once again, 4-4.
- A two-run home run from the Huskies in the top of the sixth inning put them back ahead of the Buckeyes, 6-4.
- Kaczmar led off with his program-record-setting 26th double of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. Noah Furcht was then walked. A fly-out from Harvey advanced both runners into scoring position. Kaczmar scored on a balk and Furcht was driven in on a single from Simpson to knot the score, 6-6.
- In the top of the ninth, a two-RBI triple put Washington back in the lead, 8-6.
- In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Miles Vandenheuvel walked, but the Buckeyes were not able to capitalize as they fell to Huskies, 8-6.
- Kaczmar is now the single-season Ohio State record-holder in doubles with 26, which also leads the Big Ten and is top five in the country.
- Kaczmar led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Patel fanned seven, tying his career-high, in a 3.0-inning no-decision. He gave up four runs on two hits.
- Jake Michalak (5-2) took the loss. He struck out three and allowed four runs on two hits in 4.1 innings.
- The Buckeyes will face No. 10 Rutgers in an elimination game on Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. ET. The game will air on Big Ten Network.
