Herrenbruck Tosses Complete Game as Buckeyes Advance in B1G Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. – Behind a complete game from Pierce Herrenbruck, the No. 6 Ohio State baseball team (30-24) defeated No. 10 Rutgers (26-30), 3-2, in a Big Ten Tournament elimination game on Wednesday.

- The Buckeyes struck first. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Henry Kaczmar led off with a home run over the right field fence to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead over the Scarlet Knights.
- In the top of the sixth, Rutgers took the lead, 2-1, after an RBI fielder's choice and a score on a Buckeye error.
- Alex Bemis led off with a single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning and he advanced to second on a balk. A single up the middle from Noah Furcht sent Bemis home to tie the score, 2-2.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Bemis doubled to right field to lead off the home half. With two outs, Dane Harvey stepped up to the dish, and he sent the go-ahead run in on a double to left center.
- Two runners reached base for the Scarlet Knights in the top of the ninth inning, but the Buckeyes held them off to come away with the 3-2 victory and stay alive in the Big Ten Tournament.
- Herrenbruck (7-3) needed only 99 pitches in his first career complete game. He is the first pitcher to throw a 9.0-inning complete game in the Big Ten Tournament since 2024. Herrenbruck struck out three and gave up two runs on six hits.
- Kaczmar's home run was his 12th of the season, which is the second-most on the team.
- Bemis led the Buckeyes with two hits and two runs scored.
- Kaczmar, Furcht and Harvey each batted in one run.
- The Buckeyes will the loser of the game between No. 7 Michigan and No. 11 Washington on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. ET.
