Buckeyes Will Finish Out Regular Season at Lindenwood Saturday
COLUMBUS, Ohio—No. 17 Ohio State (14-10, 9-6) defeated No. 11 McKendree (16-10, 8-7) in a five-set thriller on Thursday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.

The first set was taken by the Buckeyes with a score of 25-22. McKendree took the close second set, 25-23. Ohio State fought from a multi-point deficit in the third set, ultimately winning it in extra points, 27-25. The Bearcats took set four with a score of 25-21, sending the match to a fifth set. In an intense fifth set, the Buckeyes came away with it, 15-13.

Shane Wetzel led the Buckeyes in kills with 23 to add to his career total of 1,284, putting him in the Top 10 all-time. Stanislaw Chacinski had a massive game as well and added 18 kills. Wetzel hit .372, and Chacinski hit .368 in the match.

Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez recorded 48 assists and four digs in the match.

The Buckeyes totaled 14 service aces, led by Wetzel with six. Daniel Hurley added three, and both Henwood Rodriguez and Chacinski added two apiece.

Set 1 (25-22, OSU)
Shane Wetzel put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard first with a kill from the right side, 1-0. The Bearcats went on a small run that gave them the lead, 5-3. A kill by Daniel Hurley from the backrow put Ohio State within one-point, 6-5. Wetzel put down a service ace that gave the Buckeyes back the lead, 10-9. A kill by Stanislaw Chacinski continued the one-point advantage, 11-10. Daniel Henwood Rodriguez added a service ace to extend to a two-point lead, 14-12. Another service ace by Wetzel continued the scoring advantage, 18-16. Chacinski put down another kill from the outside for the 20-18 lead. Eliel Salva-Torres added a service ace of his own that extended Ohio State's lead to three-points, 21-18. McKendree went on a run that kept it close towards the end of the first set, 23-22. Another kill by Wetzel gave the Buckeyes their first set point, 24-22. Wetzel's kill won the first set for Ohio State, 25-22.

Set 2 (25-23, MCK)
Wetzel tooled off the block to put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard, 2-1 Bearcats. A kill by Chacinski from the outside kept Ohio State in it early, 6-3. Aaron Grimm put down a massive kill from the middle, 7-4. Grimm and Wetzel had a huge block that started to close the scoring gap, 9-7. Another service ace by Wetzel continued that close score, 12-10. Salva-Torres and Chacinski put up a massive block that continued the momentum for the Buckeyes, 14-13. Another kill by Wetzel down the sideline tied the second set at 16-all. An overpass kill by Chacinski continued the tie at 18. Grimm put down another kill that kept the score within one-point, 20-19 Bearcats. Another buried kill by Chacinski tied the set at 22-all. McKendree took the second set, 25-23.

Set 3 (27-25, OSU)
Chacinski started the third set strong with a kill, 1-0. A kill by Salva-Torres continued the lead for Ohio State, 4-2. Wetzel added a kill off the hands of the McKendree block to put the Buckeyes within one-point, 7-6. The Bearcats went on a run for the 14-9 lead. A great set from Henwood Rodriguez to Wetzel for the kill kept Ohio State in it, 15-10. Grimm added another kill that continued to close the scoring gap, 17-13. Another service ace from Wetzel kept the momentum for the Buckeyes, 20-16. Skilled block coverage by Drew Hudson put Ohio State within two-points of the lead, 20-18. Wetzel put down yet another service ace to put the Buckeyes within one-point, 20-19. Consecutive kills by Chacinski tied the third set at 24-all, sending it to extra points. Chacinski took the lead with a massive kill and service ace, 26-25. Another service ace by Chacinski won the third set for Ohio State, 27-25.

The Bearcats went on a small run to start the fourth set, 4-0. Chacinski put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard with a massive kill down the sideline, 4-1. Daniel Hurley added a service ace of his own to put Ohio State within two-points, 5-3. A huge triple block by Grimm, Chacinski and Wetzel kept the Buckeyes in it, 9-6. Wetzel kept it going with a kill from the right side, 9-7. Another kill by Salva-Torres out of the middle put Ohio State within one-point, 11-10. A bump-set by Henwood Rodriguez to Wetzel for the kill tied the set at 12-all. Grimm put down another kill that kept the set close, 16-14 McKendree. Another buried kill by Wetzel continued the two-point set, 18-16. An overpass kill by Chacinski made it a one-point set, 20-19. The Bearcats took the fourth set, 25-21.

Set 5 (15-13, OSU)
A clutch kill by Wetzel following an intense rally tied the fifth set at 1-all. Chacinski kept it going with a massive backrow kill that continued the tie at 2-all. Henwood Rodriguez put down another service ace for the 5-4 lead. Another kill by Wetzel continued the scoring advantage for the Buckeyes, 9-8. Hurley kept it going with a kill from the outside, 10-9. A successful challenge by Ohio State gave it the two-point advantage, 11-9. Wetzel put down another massive kill from the right side that preserved the two-point lead, 13-11. Skilled placement by Chacinski gave the Buckeyes their first match point, 14-12. Wetzel won the match for Ohio State with another kill, 15-13.

Up Next: Ohio State will wrap up the MIVA regular season traveling to No. 12 Lindenwood (18-6, 9-5) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hyland Arena. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
