
Buckeyes Extend Win Streak to Five with Victory over Maryland

Game Recap
- Maryland struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning off an RBI double and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- The Buckeyes responded by capitalizing off back-to-back Maryland errors in the bottom of the second inning that scored Maddix Simpson and Dane Harvey to tie the score, 2-2.
- Maryland regained the lead in the top of the fourth, 3-2, off a sacrifice fly.
- The Buckeyes were able to score two runs take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the fifth, which started with a Henry Kaczmar lead-off double. Kaczmar scored to tie the game on a Harvey groundout. During the next at bat, Lee Ellis drilled an RBI double to the wall that scored Mason Eckelman, who reached base after being hit by a pitch, to put the Buckeyes ahead, 4-3.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Miles Vandenheuvel reached base after being hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Alex Bemis was then walked to put two runners on. A double from Kaczmar sent Vandenheuvel home to put Ohio State up by two, 5-3.
- Eckelman walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Ellis also walked. Simpson stepped up to the dish next, and he went yard for the first time this season, driving in three more runs for the Buckeyes. With two out, Vandenheuvel was again hit by a pitch; he then stole second, and advanced to third on a Maryland error. A triple from Bemis sent Vandenheuvel home and a double from Kaczmar sent Bemis home to give the Buckeyes a commanding seven-run lead, 10-3.
- Maryland scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to cut the Ohio State lead to two, 10-8.
- After the lead runner reached base in the top of the ninth, the Buckeyes turned an impressive 9-5 double play and the a groundout to shortstop to end the game and secure the 10-8 win.
- Simpson and Kaczmar led the Buckeye with three hits each. Kaczmar is on a 16-game hitting streak.
- Vandenheuvel, Simpson and Eckelman each scored two runs.
- Simpson led the Buckeyes with three RBIs.
- Ryan Zamora (2-0) earned the win. He struck out three and gave up two runs on one hit in 3.2 inning pitched.
- Andrew Edrington earned his first career save. He allowed just one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings.
- The Buckeye and Terrapins continue their series April 4-5. Saturday's game has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start due to expected inclement weather, and Sunday's game will also begin at 1 p.m.
