
Buckeyes Fall to Scarlet Knights in Series Finale

Game Recap
- The Buckeyes struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Dane Harvey scored on a Rutgers error.
- Miles Vandenheuvel led off with a double to right center field in the top of the third inning. Alex Bemis was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on. A sacrifice bunt from Henry Kaczmar advanced both runners into scoring position. A single through the left side from Noah Furcht sent Vandenheuvel home to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead.
- The Scarlet Knights cut the Ohio State lead in half, 2-1, after a solo home run in the bottom of the third frame.
- Another solo home run for Rutgers in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the score, 2-2.
- In the top of the sixth with two outs, Harvey walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch to get into scoring position, but he was left on base.
- The Scarlet Knights took a 10-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after a two-run home run, a score on a Buckeye error, a three-run home run and a two-RBI double.
- With one out in the top of the seventh, Lee Ellis hit an infield single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. A double to left field from Grant Mangrum plated Ellis and a single up the middle from Vandenheuvel sent Mangrum home to cut the Rutgers lead to six, 10-4.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Rutgers added a run on an RBI groundout to take an 11-4 lead over the Buckeyes.
- Mason Eckelman walked to lead off the top of the ninth for the Buckeyes. With one out, Mangrum singled into shallow center field to put two runners on. A single from Vandenheuvel loaded the bases. Eckelman scored on a wild pitch to put the Buckeyes back within six, 11-5, but Rutgers came away with the win and the series victory.
- Vandenheuvel led the Buckeyes with three hits. Ellis and Mangrum each had two hits.
- Furcht, Mangrum and Vandenheuvel each had one RBI.
- Pierce Herrenbruck (4-3) took the loss. He struck out four and gave up seven runs on six hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes host No. 20 Nebraska for a three-game series Friday, May 1-Sunday, May 3.
