
Buckeyes Split Friday Doubleheader at Rutgers

Game Recap
- Alex Bemis had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes with a lead-off double in the top of the fourth, but there was nothing else doing for Ohio State in the inning.
- Dane Harvey led off with a double to right field in the top of the fifth, and a sacrifice bunt from Maddix Simpson advanced him to third base. A single into center field from Mason Eckelman plated Harvey to put the Buckeyes on the board. Lee Ellis stepped up to the dish next, and he sent a no doubter over the wall in center field to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead over the Scarlet Knights.
- In the top of the sixth, Henry Kaczmar reached base on a fielder's choice and Noah Furcht reached on a Rutgers error. An infield single from Harvey loaded the bases for the Buckeyes. Simpson sent a single through the left side to plate two runs and extend the Ohio State lead, 5-0.
- Grant Mangrum led off with a single to left field in the seventh inning. With one out, Alex Bemis went yard to send two more runs home for the Buckeyes and give them a 7-0 lead over the Scarlet Knights.
- In the top of the ninth, Mangrum scored for the Buckeyes on a caught stealing play to put Ohio State ahead, 8-0.
- The Scarlet Knights were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth as the Buckeyes earned the 8-0 series-opening shutout.
- Bemis and Harvey led the Buckeyes with two hits each.
- Bemis, Ellis and Simpson shared the team lead in RBIs with two each.
- Gavin Kuzniewski (3-2) earned the win on the mound. He fanned five and gave up just four hits in 6.0 scoreless inning.
- Jake Michalak earned a save, striking out two in 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings tossed.
Game Recap
- Kaczmar hit a one-out double in the top of the first inning, but he was left on base.
- In the top of the third with two outs, Bemis singled through the left side, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes.
- The Scarlet Knights scored on two sacrifice flies in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- With two outs in the top of the fifth, Mangrum and Miles Vandenheuvel hit back-to-back singles, but they were stranded.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Rutgers extended its lead to 3-0 after a solo home run.
- Furcht singled up the middle with one out on the board in the top of the sixth inning, but he was left on base.
- Eckelman walked to lead off the seventh inning and with one out, Mangrum walked to put two runners on for Ohio State. The Scarlet Knights, however, got the final two outs to keep the Buckeyes scoreless.
- Eckelman led off with a triple in the top of the ninth, but the Buckeyes were not able to capitalize and they fell to the Scarlet Knights, 3-0.
- Eckelman's ninth-inning triple was his 100th career hit.
- Eckelman, Bemis, Furcht, Kaczmar, Mangrum and Vandenheuvel each had one hit.
- Chris Domke (4-4) pitched his first career complete game. He took the loss, striking out three and allowing one earned run on six hits in 8.0 innings of work.
- The series finale between the Buckeyes and the Scarlet Knights is on Sunday, April 26 at noon.
