Buckeyes host Oregon Friday, No. 22 Washington Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5 Ohio State women's tennis team hosts two Big Ten matches this weekend to close out the regular season. The Buckeyes will take on Oregon at 6 p.m. Friday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center and host No. 22 Washington at noon Sunday, with the match scheduled to be played outdoors at the Auer Tennis Center. Ohio State is 19-3 this season (10-1 B1G), with the Ducks 12-11 (3-8 B1G) and Huskies 17-3 (8-3 B1G). Next week, the Buckeyes will host the Top 12 teams in the final standings in the Big Ten Tournament.

Johnson Honored as B1G Freshman of the Week
- Flora Johnson was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after posting two doubles wins last week.
- Johnson and Luciana Perry were 2-0 on court one vs. ranked foes as the Buckeyes posted team wins at Indiana and Purdue.
- The tandem won 6-3 over Purdue's No. 55-ranked team and then posted a 6-4 decision against the No. 84-ranked duo from Indiana, with both clinching the doubles point.
- Johnson and Perry are ranked a season-high 24th this week and are 10-2 overall.

Oregon
- The match Friday will be the first between Ohio State and Oregon since 2012 and the first as Big Ten foes.
- Ohio State is 3-2 all-time vs. the Ducks, with a 2-0 ledger in Columbus.
- The squads first met in 1997 in a neutral site match in Albuquerque, N.M., a 5-4 Oregon win.
- The teams faced off three straight years from 2008-10, with Ohio State wins in Columbus sandwiched around a road victory. The last match was a 4-3 Oregon win at home in 2012.
- Oregon is 3-8 in Big Ten action and 12-11 overall, ranked 70th. Last weekend, the Ducks lost to Wisconsin and defeated Minnesota at home.
- Ohio State is 2-1 all-time against Washington, with two wins last season.
- The squads faced off for the first time as Big Ten foes March 3, 2025 in Columbus, a 4-1 Ohio State victory. They then met in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals in Ojai, Calif., a 4-1 Buckeye victory.
- The first meeting between the teams was a 7-2 victory by the Huskies in San Diego, Calif., March 5, 1996.
- The Huskies are ranked 22nd this week, with a 17-3 overall record and 8-3 B1G ledger after home wins over Minnesota and Wisconsin last week. Washington will play at Penn State Friday before traveling to Columbus. Their losses in conference play are to Nebraska, UCLA and USC.
- Washington has two ranked singles players – No. 82 Erika Matsuda and No. 84 Reece Carter. In doubles, Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit are No. 82.
- The Buckeyes are ranked fifth in the ITA team rankings this week, their 10th straight week in the Top 5, reaching as high as No. 2
- The squad started the season No. 13 and was No. 12 in the second poll, moving to No. 10 Jan. 28.
- Four other Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 25 this week - No. 10 USC, No. 17 Michigan, No. 19 UCLA and No. 22 Washington.
- In the new singles rankings, Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez remained in the Top 5 at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. It is the sixth straight release Ohio State has had two of the nation's Top 5 ranked singles players.
- Earlier this season, Chavez and Perry became the second and third Buckeyes to earn a spot in the singles Top 3, joining Francesca Di Lorenzo, who was as high as No. 1 in 2016 and '17. Chavez has been as high as No. 2, with Perry reaching No. 3.
- Perry has been in the Top 10 since Dec. 20, 2024 and Chavez has been in the Top 20 since the final rankings of 2025.
- This week, Nao Nishino is ranked 77th and Audrey Spencer is No. 100 in singles.
- In doubles, the tandem of Hephzibah Oluwadare and Chavez is 24th this week, remaining in the Top 25 since the duo's first ranking Feb. 4. The tandem has been ranked as high as 13th.
- Flora Johnson and Perry are a season-high No. 30. Spencer and Nishino are No. 75, with Perry and Chavez 84th.
- Twelve teams the Buckeyes have faced this season were ranked in the Top 25 at the time of the match, including three in the Top 5. This week, six Buckeye opponents are in the Top 10 - No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 7 Virginia, No. 9 Pepperdine and No. 10 USC.
- Ohio State is 19-3 on the year and coming off five straight road wins. Last week the Buckeyes won 4-0 at Purdue and Indiana.
- The Buckeyes are 10-1 in Big Ten matches, with home wins over Michigan, Michigan State, Rutgers and Maryland and road wins at Penn State, UCLA, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue and Indiana, with the loss at USC.
- In the B1G standings with one week left in the regular season, Michigan is 11-1, with Ohio State and USC 10-1. Washington is next at 8-3, with Maryland, Nebraska, Wisconsin and UCLA all 7-4. The Top 12 teams will compete in the Big Ten Championship – Ohio State, USC and Michigan have all clinched tourney berths and first round byes.
- In dual matches, Audrey Spencer is 14-0 to lead the Buckeyes, followed by Teah Chavez who is 13-1. Luciana Perry is 11-2, with Nao Nishino 11-5. Spencer has won her last 18 completed matches.
- Overall, Nishino has a team-best 25 victories this year, with Spencer next with 20 and Chavez and Perry notching 19 singles wins each.
- As a team, the Buckeyes are 70-21 in singles in dual matches. The squad is 15-2 on courts two and four, with court six 12-5, court one 11-1 and court five 10-2.
- The Buckeyes have won the doubles point in the last eight matches. The tandem of Flora Johnson and Perry leads Ohio State with a 10-2 mark this spring.
- The ITA announced Ohio State will serve as a host school for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in both 2027 and 2028. A joint host with Michigan, both schools will host opening rounds of play each year. Michigan will host the semifinals and final in 2027 and Ohio State will host the semifinals and final in 2028. Host schools are automatically in the 16-team tournament field.
- Ohio State will serve as the host of the 2026 Big Ten Tennis Tournament. The Top 12 teams in the final Big Ten standings will compete for the trophy. The Top 4 seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinals. There will be four first round matches April 23, four quarterfinal matches April 24, two semifinals April 25 and the final April 26. Â
