Ohio State closes regular season Sunday vs. No. 22 Washington

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5 Ohio State women's tennis team moved its winning streak to nine with a 4-0 victory over Oregon Friday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Buckeyes are now 20-3 on the year, with an 11-1 Big Ten ledger. Oregon is 12-12 (3-9 B1G). This is Ohio State's sixth straight season with 20 or more wins.

The night started with Senior Night ceremonies for Megan Basil. Ohio State then picked up the doubles point and three straight set singles wins for the team victory against Oregon. The Buckeyes have won their last four matches 4-0 and have 10 shutouts on the year. Against the Ducks, the doubles teams of Luciana Perry/Flora Johnson and Audrey Spencer/Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev each won 6-3. Nao Nishino, Hephzibah Oluwadare and Alessia Cau posted singles victories.

The Buckeyes will close the regular season against No. 22 Washington at noon Sunday. The match vs. the Huskies is scheduled to be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex. Admission and parking are free for all home matches.

How it Happened

Audrey Spencer and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev won 6-3 on court two and the duo of No. 30-ranked Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson followed with a win by the same score on court one for the doubles point. Megan Basil and Teah Chavez were ahead 5-4 in their match when the point was clinched.
Ohio State took five of six first sets in singles en route to the victory.
On court three, No. 77 Nao Nishino dropped just one game in each set to defeat Virginia Crocker, 6-1, 6-1.
Alessia Cau followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Juliet Santitto on court six.
Hephzibah Oluwadare provided the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Hinata Fututani on court five.
The remaining matches were abandoned. On court one, Chavez dropped the first set but was ahead 5-1 in the second. Perry led her court two match 6-3, 5-3 and on court four Spencer was ahead 6-4, 4-0.
Perry and Johnson are first for the Buckeyes in doubles with an 11-2 record this spring, while Spencer and Cisse-Ignatiev are 8-3.
In singles, Nishino moved her record to 12-5 in dual play and she is first on the team with 26 wins overall. Cau is 7-1 this spring, with Oluwadare 5-4.
