Game Recap
- Marshall scored first in the top of the first inning off two RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.
- Henry Kazmar put the Buckeyes on the board in the bottom half of the first inning with a home run to dead center, cutting the Marshall lead to one, 2-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Dane Harvey tied the score, 2-2, with a towering 422-foot lead-off home run down the right field line. Maddix Simpson was walked and, with two outs, Miles Vandenheuvel hit an infield single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A double down the left field line from Grant Mangrum sent both runners home to give the Buckeyes their first lead, 4-2. Back-to-back doubles from Alex Bemis and Kaczmar sent two more runs across and extended the Ohio State lead, 6-2.
- Marshall scored on a Buckeye error in the top of the fifth to cut the Ohio State lead to three, 6-3.
- The Herd scored two runs in the top of the sixth off an RBI double and an RBI fielder's choice to leave the Buckeyes ahead by just one run, 6-5.
- Mangrum and Bemis started the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles and Kaczmar walked to load the bases, but they were left stranded.
- Marshall took a 9-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning after a score on a Buckeye error, a two-RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
- Bemis and Mangrum led off the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back walks. Noah Furcht delivered a two-out RBI single to drive in Mangrum and cut the Marshall lead to two, 9-7.
- In the top of the ninth, Marshall added two more runs after an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to take a four-run lead, 11-7.
- Lee Ellis singled to center in the bottom of the ninth, but he was left stranded as the Buckeyes were defeated by the Herd, 11-7.
- Mangrum and Harvey led the Buckeyes with three hits each. Mangrum was three-for-three.
- Harvey's home run was his team-leading eighth of the season.
- Kaczmar, Harvey and Mangrum each batted in two runs.
- Nick Sawyer (0-2) took the loss. He struck out one and gave up three earned runs on three hits in 0.1 innings pitched.
- Sahil Patel delivered 3.0 scoreless innings. He struck out one and allowed just two hits.
- The Buckeyes travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for a three-game series with Purdue Friday, April 17-Sunday, April 19.
