Game Recap
- Miles Vandenheuvel walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but he was left stranded.
- In the bottom of the second, Henry Kaczmar sent a double to the right center field gap and advanced to third on a stolen base. Maddix Simpson singled to right field, scoring Kaczmar and giving the Buckeyes the first lead. Steven Cavaco singled and advanced to second on a Xavier balk and was sent home from a single to right field by Alex Bemis, putting Ohio State up, 2-0.
- The Musketeers recorded their first runner of the game on a walk with two outs in the third inning. The next batter smacked a double down the third-base line, cutting the Ohio State lead to one. A hit-by-pitch put runners on first and second before a three-run home run gave Xavier their first lead of the game, 4-2.
- With one out in the bottom of the third, Mason Eckelman worked a walk and was sent around by a screaming double to left center field by Noah Furcht to cut the Musketeers' lead to one, 4-3.
- Xavier scored one run off of a walk and two singles in the fourth inning to extend its lead to two, 5-3.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Bemis worked a full count walk and advanced to third after Dane Harvey hit a double down the left field line. Vandenheuvel loaded the bases on the second full count walk in the inning/ Lee Ellis was hit by the pitch to send Bemis home and leave the Buckeyes trailing by one, 5-4.
- The Musketeers extended their lead to 8-4 in the fifth inning after a walk, a two-run home run, a single, a walk, another single and a score on a Buckeye error.
- Ohio State stranded two in the bottom of the fifth inning after a single from Simpson and a Musketeer error.
- In the top of the sixth, Xavier added to its lead with a walk, a single, an RBI double and a sacrifice fly, putting the Musketeers up. 10-4.
- A triple and an RBI groundout gave Xavier another run in the top of the seventh to give the Musketeers an 11-4 lead.
- The Musketeers grabbed two more in the top of the eighth off of a walk, single, an RBI single and a Buckeye throwing error.
- Furcht and Kaczmar walked to start the bottom of the ninth, but were left stranded as Xavier came away with the 13-4 win.
- Simpson led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Jude Fisher (1-2) took the loss. He gave up five runs on two hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
- Nick Sawyer struck out three in 2.0 innings of relief.
- The Buckeyes start Big Ten competition against No. 1 UCLA this weekend at Bill Davis Stadium. Friday's match is set for 4 p.m., Saturday's contest is at 2 p.m. and the series concludes on Sunday at 11 a.m.
