
Ohio State Sweeps B1G Series at Minnesota

It is Ohio State's first Big Ten series sweep since a three-game sweep of Michigan to close out the 2023 season. The Buckeyes have swept three series so far this season, opening the season with a sweep of Saint Louis in Pensacola and sweeping Butler last weekend at Bill Davis Stadium.
Game Recap
- The Golden Gophers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single. With bases loaded, an unassisted double play for first baseman Dane Harvey ended the inning.
- Minnesota added a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double to take a 2-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- Maddix Simpson had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes, with a lead off double in the top of the third inning, but they were not able to capitalize.
- Lee Ellis was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth inning. Simpson then singled to center field, advancing Ellis to third to put runners on the corners. A hard-hit single through the left side for Miles Vandenheuvel sent Ellis home to cut the Minnesota lead in half, 2-1.
- Henry Kaczmar led off with a home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score, 2-2. Noah Furcht stepped up to the plate next, and he also went yard to give the Buckeyes their first lead of the game, 3-2. With one out, Ellis sent a home run over the left field wall on the first pitch he saw to put Ohio State ahead by two, 4-2.
- The Golden Gophers reclaimed the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth inning after a three-run home run.
- Grant Mangrum led off with a single to left field in the seventh, and he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alex Bemis and Kaczmar then drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. With one out, Eckelman sent a double deep into right field, sending two runs across to put the Buckeyes back ahead, 6-5. An RBI sacrifice fly from Harvey and an RBI single from Simpson sent two more runs in to give Ohio State a three-run lead, 8-5.
- In the top of the eighth, Mangrum hit a lead-off single. With one out, Kaczmar walked and Furcht was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Buckeyes. Eckelman stepped up next, and he blew the game wide open, hitting his second grand slam of the season to give the Buckeyes a 12-5 lead over the Golden Gophers.
- In the bottom of the eighth, the Golden Gophers scored on a bases-loaded walk and a three-RBI double to cut the Ohio State lead to three, 12-9.
- In the bottom of the ninth, the Golden Gophers were retired, clinching the 12-9 victory and series sweep for the Buckeyes.
- Simpson led the Buckeyes with a career-high four hits.
- Kaczmar's hitting streak is now at 14 games.
- Eckelman had a team-high six RBIs, tying his career-high.
- Starter Pierce Herrenbruck struck out five and gave up two runs on seven hits in a 4.2-inning no-decision.
- Ryan Zamora (1-0) earned his first win as a Buckeye. He struck out three in 2.0 innings pitched. He allowed three runs on two hits.
- The Buckeyes kick off a nine-game home stand when they host Toledo at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 at Bill Davis Stadium.
