Buckeyes enter weekend 12-3 on the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State women's tennis team will host two Big Ten matches this weekend, taking on Rutgers at 2 p.m. Friday and Maryland at 2 p.m. Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, Ohio, and will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in the event of inclement weather. Buckeyes vs. Scarlet Knights
- Ohio State is 10-2 against Rutgers, winning the last nine matches. The last loss against Rutgers occurred in 1989 and the series dates to 1987.
- Last season, the Buckeyes were 4-0 winners on the road at Rutgers March 23, 2025.
- In doubles, Rutgers' duo of Mai Nguyen and Zuzanna Frankowska is ranked 82nd.
- The Scarlet Knights are 8-7 on the year and 1-4 in league play. Last weekend, the squad split a pair of Big Ten matches at home, downing Minnesota 4-2 and falling to Wisconsin, 4-0. Rutgers' other Big Ten matches are road losses at Maryland, Washington and Oregon.
- Ohio State has a 13-1 record against Maryland and has claimed the last 12 matchups between the teams. The programs first met in 1984.
- Last year, the Buckeyes were 4-1 winners over the Terps in College Park, Md., March 21, 2025.
- Maryland is No. 35 in the ITA team rankings this week. The squad is 12-2 on the year and has a 4-1 Big Ten ledger. Maryland will play at Penn State Friday before the match vs. the Buckeyes. - In the ITA rankings, Oliwia Orlinska is No. 110 in singles and the duo of Emma Ghirardato and Ema Kovacevic is ranked 37th in doubles.
- The Buckeyes are ranked fourth in the ITA team rankings this week, their seventh straight week in the Top 4, reaching as high as No. 2
- The squad started the season No. 13 and was No. 12 in the second poll, moving to No. 10 Jan. 28.
- Four other Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 25 this week - No. 14 USC, No.17 UCLA, No. 18 Michigan and No. 20 Washington.
- In the singles rankings last week, Teah Chavez (No. 4) and Luciana Perry (No.5) remained in the Top 5 for the third straight release. Â

- In doubles, the tandem of Hephzibah Oluwadare and Chavez was No. 14 last week.
- Perry and Chavez were No. 76 in doubles, with Flora Johnson and Perry No. 84.
- Ohio State is 12-3 on the year and defeated Duke 4-1 last Sunday at home for its second win over the Blue Devils this season.
- The Buckeyes are 4-1 in Big Ten matches, with a home win over Michigan and Michigan State and road wins at Penn State and UCLA, with the loss at USC.

- In the Big Ten standings, USC and Michigan are both 5-1, with the Buckeyes, Washington, Maryland and Illinois all 4-1 and Illinois 4-2.
- The ITA announced Ohio State will serve as a host school for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in both 2027 and 2028. A joint host with Michigan, both schools will host opening rounds of play each year. Michigan will host the semifinals and final in 2027 and Ohio State will host the semifinals and final in 2028. Host schools are automatically in the 16-team tournament field.
- Ohio State will play its next five matches on the road, starting with three next week, as the Buckeyes will travel to face Michigan April 1, Nebraska April 3 and Iowa April 5.
- After road matches at Purdue April 11 and Indiana April 12, the Buckeyes will close the regular season at home against Oregon April 17 and Washington April 19.

- Ohio State will then serve as the host of the 2026 Big Ten Tennis Tournament. The Top 12 teams in the final Big Ten standings will compete for the trophy. The Top 4 seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinals. There will be four first round matches April 23, four quarterfinal matches April 24, two semifinals April 25 and the final April 26. Â
