COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 ranked Ohio State women's tennis team shut out Rutgers 4-0 Friday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Ohio State is now 13-3 and 5-1 in the Big Ten. Rutgers is 8-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Ohio State started strong, posting back-to-back doubles victories to claim the doubles point. Buckeyes Audrey Spencer and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev secured the first doubles victory, followed by Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson. Perry, Alessia Cau and Nao Nishino were victorious in straight sets in their respective singles matches for a 4-0 Ohio State win.

How it Happened

The duo of Audrey Spencer and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev took the first doubles victory on court three, beating Stella Schmitz and Naomi Karki 6-1.
On court one, No. 84 ranked Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson beat No. 82 ranked Mai Nguyen and Zuzanna Frankowska 6-2, earning the Buckeyes the doubles point.
The court two matchup between Teah Chavez and Alessia Cau and Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker was left unfinished.
No. 5 ranked Perry defeated Jumazhanova 6-2, 6-2 on court two to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead.
On court six, Cau downed Karki 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets, adding another point to the scoreboard for Ohio State.
To secure the victory for the Buckeyes, No. 86 ranked Nao Nishino beat Stella Schmitz 6-2, 6-3 on court four.
The three remaining singles matches were unfinished. Chavez and Cisse-Ignatiev were both up a set and ahead 5-4 in the second set when the match was clinched. Johnson rallied to force a third set and was ahead 1-0.

The Schedule Ahead

Ohio State will play host Maryland at 2 p.m. Sunday. The match is scheduled to be played outdoors at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, Ohio, but will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in the event of inclement weather. Admission and parking are free.
