
Buckeyes Defeated by Huskies in Series Finale

Game Recap
- Lee Ellis had the first hit of the day for the Buckeyes with a double to left field in the top of the third, but he was left on base.
- The Huskies struck first with a two-RBI single and a sacrifice fly in bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- Noah Furcht walked to lead off the top of the fourth for the Buckeyes, followed by an infield single from Mason Eckelman. A sacrifice bunt from Alex Bemis advanced both runners. Furcht crossed home on a sacrifice fly from Dane Harvey and Eckelman scored on a wild pitch to leave Ohio Sate trailing by just one run, 3-2.
- Starter Pierce Herrenbruck was electric on the mound. In the bottom of the fourth inning, he fanned three of four batters faced.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Miles Vandenheuvel led off with an infield single, but he was stranded.
- An RBI single for the Huskies in the bottom of the seventh inning gave them a two-run lead over the Buckeyes, 4-2. The inning ended with a great play at the plate, with a Husky being caught trying to steal home by Eckelman on a throw from his cousin Henry Kaczmar.
- In the top of the eighth, Kaczmar led off with a double to right field. Furcht then reached base on a Washington fielding error. Eckelman grounded into a double play, but both runners were able to advance on the play. A single through the left side from Bemis scored Kaczmar and left the Buckeyes trailing by just one run, 4-3.
- With two outs in the top of the ninth, Vandenheuvel launched his first career home run 376 feet out of the park to tie the score, 4-4.
- With one out in the bottom of the ninth, the Huskies hit back-to-back singles to put two runners on. A run scored on a fielder's choice was the game-winning score for Washington.
- Herrenbruck struck out a career-high seven in a 5.2-inning no-decision. He gave up three runs on six hits.
- Vandenheuvel led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Nick Sawyer (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He allowed one run on two hits in one third of an inning pitched.
- The Buckeyes play at Xavier at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 before hosting Butler for a three-game series at Bill Davis Stadium March 20-22.
