Freshman Jenna Molk tosses a no-hitter to earn her first collegiate win
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (1-2) earned its first win of the 2026 season on Saturday after an 11-0, five-inning shutout of Army (1-3). Freshman pitcher Jenna Molk tossed a no-hitter in the win, becoming just the third freshman in the last 12 years to do so. She struck out four batters and did not walk anybody on her way to picking up her first collegiate win.
Molk's no-hitter is the 24th in Ohio State history since 1997. The other freshmen to do it over the last 12 seasons are teammate Lorin Boutte (last year vs. North Carolina Central) and Shelby Hursh vs. Utah State in 2014.
Molk's no-hitter was backed up by an offense that scored 11 runs on 11 hits and had four home runs, which included a grand slam from freshman Sara Tarr. Four Buckeyes recorded two or more hits, led by Taylor Cruse, who went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. Cruse, Hailey Lang, Sara Tarr and Hadley Parisien all hit home runs.
How it Happened
- With one out on the board in the bottom of the first, Abbie Wilhelm and Taylor Cruse hit back-to-back singles. Hailey Lang stepped up to the plate next and homered to give the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Sara Tarr and Izzy Neal were on base after consecutive singles. Hadley Parisien drove in Tarr on a single to center field to extend the Ohio State lead, 4-0.
- Cruse led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run. The bases were soon loaded after Lang and Skylar Limon were walked, and Lottie Landmesser was hit by a pitch. Tarr was next up and she hit a grand slam, adding four more runs for the Buckeyes on her first collegiate home run. With one out, Neal doubled to left field, followed by a two-run home run from Parisien to extend the Ohio State lead, 11-0.
- The Black Knights were retired in order in the fourth inning and, after on runner reached base in the top of the fifth, the Buckeyes got the next three outs to secure the 11-0 victory.
- Molk earned the victory in the circle. She struck out four batters and allowed just one hit in her complete game shutout.
- Cruse led the team in hits with three. Parisien, Tarr and Neal each had two hits.
- Tarr had a team-high four RBIs. Cruse and Lang each batted in three runs.
